Our August of 2011
Okay, so this blog was supposed to be all about our first year homeschooling and I spent the entire year not blogging at all. Here's why:
AUGUST:
Sometime in August last year my supposed best friend called DFS now, my house was cluttered I have never denied that...but this person, a friend, a fellow member of our church LIES about all kinds of things, my husband offered to pay her to arrange my beautiful almost new pantry while I'm off on vacation for my little brother's AIT graduation, at this point we still were not totally unpacked from the move in and his mom had just died, so we had all kinds of boxes and stuff to go through...anyways, this "friend" actually rearranged everything I had already done, took bags of potatoes from the pantry and bread & bananas from the counter and shoved it in my closed pantry behind cans and boxes of food so that it would rot, when we got home, I found plates (that were clean when I left) dirty and shoved in odd places, all of the pasta and rice that I had so carefully and lovingly arranged in drawers in my kitchen were literally thrown all over my counter and boxes of kitchen utensils (which were packed like they should have been arranged in the drawers) just dumped into drawers. At this I was furious, (and being me, yelled and cried and even screamed at my husband for allowing her to screw everything up. My mom told me I was over-reacting and my dad gave me the "I'm disappointed in you" Look. Okay that part actually happened in July but my point is this so called friend did things to mess up what I had done and caused the possibility of food going bad, which was listed in her accusations!
August 24th we spend the day painting our then VERY UGLY living room, (it's a rental) so we beautify the living room and EVERYTHING excess is moved to the dinning room for the day & overnight, the next day before we even get everything put back and re-arranged DFS worker shows up because (didn't know who at the time) of a "hotline tip" thinking I did not have ANYTHING to hide we let her in and the H*LL that we've been through and are still going through for the last year starts! I'll catch you up to September next time!
FYI TIP: You are NOT required by law to let a social worker into your house, parade your darling children outside for them to see! If you are a home-schooling family INVEST the money into membership dues to HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association) Here is there link:

**Note** I am not paid for the advertisement or the suggestion to join, I do not benefit from this statement.
I do however speak from experience they are worth it, to be able to call a lawyer at any time!

Do You Validate?
No not parking, have you ever felt like
you really just need someone to hear something that you went through just to
make sure the way you are feeling is correct? After reading about a family in
Ohio
(see the link here: http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/state/report-seclusion-misused-for-ohio-disabled-kids#ixzz22jiit0JH
)
it got me to thinking about when we
pulled our son from public school who also used a seclusion room (they called it
a “recovery room” and to be let out you had to sit with your arms hugging your
legs and shoes in front of you; now you weren’t allowed to let them know you
were ready either. They just left you were in a room with absolutely NOTHING to
do. The school never sent anything home when my Lego Man was in there either,
the only way I knew when it happened was when either Care~bear or Lego Man told
me so.
Okay without further ado here is part of our
story that I posted:
My son was in
a seclusion room when he was in public school; he was in there pretty much
daily. The day that I pulled him from public school was the day that the
principal and both counselors and the nurse were gone, the Vice-Principal
couldn't use it without one of them being there so he called me within an hour
of school starting to have me pick Lego Man up, "He is just not going to
make it through the day" is all I was told. After telling the Vice
Principal that I didn't have the car, my hubby did and I would have to call and
have him pulled out of his class to pick our son up; also telling him that if
he couldn't do it I would walk up and get him (school was 6-8 blocks or so, we
walked it often...but my 4 year old was sick and there was heaps of snow) 12
minutes from the first call I get another (did I mention that at the times of
both calls from the VP I had my hands IN bread dough?!?!? 6 loaves worth! (I
literally had just hung up with hubby's school) "when are you coming to
get him, when will you be here????" at this point I think that something
must be so wrong, he's hurt somebody or destroyed property...Me: "what is
he doing, what is going on?"....VP: "He is making noises and I want
to know how long I have to occupy him"
I walked up
to get him and when I get there he is crying because he wants to go back to
class and he isn't being allowed, he asks if he can at least go get his strip
of fabric that he has in his desk (comfort/sensory item from his Nana) he won't
even let him do that, VP: "you can just get it tomorrow" ME: "nope
his sister can go get it after school, Lego Man won't be back again" all
because the VP couldn't use the seclusion room...I imagine Lego Man would have
been there all day if he had been able to.
Tomorrow we go to Kansas City, Children’s Mercy to
get results of the last 2 meetings and maybe find out if he is on the spectrum
and just where my Lego Man is on it. We know that we have special needs; I get
that now, even though I’m still calling them “Different Needs”
I promise that my next blog entry won’t take almost a year to do!

Naming Our Homeschool
So about a week ago we had a family meeting (Princessa over the phone since she was still at Grandma's). Our topic?....to rename our homeschool. The reason? I lost the document where I worked on ID cards for the kids (my pc crashed and we lost a few years of things thankfully I had backed up all my pictures a few days before). The old name was something like Hagan Prepatory Academy or something we couldn't really remember. After going through about 5 or 6 different ones the most outragous would have to have been The Athena Academy for Muses...that lasted a whole 20 minutes until we said it bunch! We finally narrowed it down to 2 and voted, School of God's Grace or God's Grace Academy. School of God's Grace won at a landslide of 4 to 1. (me being the one).
ID cards are made and laminated, wall hangings decorate our upstairs hallway, we are in the middle of re-arranging the furniture to make room for 2 new HUGE Homeschool bookshelves and a piano. Classic books have been purchased (thank you Target bargin bins paid $1 a book for like 30 great books).
I have a homeschool workshop and a conference for the next 2 weekends, I'm not hyperventilating (yet). I feel calm, cool and almost collected! I have done research and put together a Unit Study resource page with over 20 links to unit study materials and ideas most of them are free. My husband is really awesome and has planned a BIG date night Friday since we are headed out of town for the night for the first workshop.
We just got a free trial for the next 30 days at Time4Learning.com as long as I review so I think that will be great....this is a brand new blog so far and this being my first post I'll spend my next couple weeks reviewing Time4Learning.com through myself and the 3 kids' point of view and getting ready to start school in the next few weeks!
I'm excited!
